2006 scheitert der Künstler Gregor Schneider am Widerstand der Kulturpolitik, einen schwarzen Kubus von 14 Metern Höhe in Venedig aufzustellen. Sein Projekt Black Cube , das schließlich 2007 in Hamburg realisiert wurde, knüpft an eine lange Geschichte an: vom ägyptischen Tempel von Leto zur Kaaba in Mekka, von Malewitschs Schwarzes Quadrat bis zu Tony Smiths Skulptur Die von 1962. Die Lecture Performance ist ein Versuch, der Dialektik dieser sonderbaren Erscheinungen auf die Spur zu kommen und die Begegnung mit ihnen unmittelbar werden zu lassen.

Der Regisseur David Weber-Krebs und der Dramaturg Jan-Philipp Possmann schaffen Kunst aus der Begegnung mit bestehenden Kunstwerken. Gemeinsam arbeiten sie seit 2008 an der Lecture Performance-Reihe Catalog of Situations zur relationalen Ästhetik. Inside the Black Cube ist die dritte Lecture Performance dieser Reihe.

Catalog of Situations: Inside the Black Cube
(lecture performance in german)

In 2006 the artist Gregor Schneider failed in his effort to erect a black cube with a height of 14 meters in the heart of Venice. His project Black Cube, which eventually found its realization in Hamburg in 2007, relates back to a long cultural history: from the Egyptian temple of Leto to the Kaaba in Mekka, from Malewitsch's Black Square to Tony Smith's sculpture Die from 1962. This lecture performance is an effort in tracing the dialectics of these peculiar apparitions and making the encounter with them immediate.

Director David Weber-Krebs and dramaturg Jan-Philipp Possmann create art out of encounters with existing art works. Since 2008 they are working together on a series of lecture performances on relational aesthetics entitled Catalog of Situations. Inside the Black Cube is the third lecture performance in this series.
